Responding to Anger

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 15:1 (NIV)

This one is pretty self-explanatory right? It is probably not a surprise to you that this is an effective way to behave.

But the question is, can you actually pull it off when there is anger and wrath about? Can you make this happen in a difficult situation when emotions are running high?

Try two things to help, both starting with “P”.

First, have prepared a plan beforehand. Rather than rely on your will power in the heat of the moment, strategise what your first sentence will be, and have done the thinking and deciding beforehand.

Second, keep things in perspective. Just two verses later we read “the eyes of the Lord are everywhere…” God is with you in that stressful, emotional situation and that is all you need!
