At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.Revelation 4:2 (NIV)
About the above verse, the late Richard Bewes wrote, “Someone… What a relief! We do not need to think of blindly-operating forces controlling our destiny. We do not take our guidance from the stars. We are not the victims of mere chance, fate or luck. There is personality at the centre of our universe. This makes the difference – to everything!”
This description in Revelation of heaven’s throne room is an amazing one to imagine. But perhaps the most comforting part in these COVID times is to know that the throne has somebody sitting on it.
Whilst other thrones are vulnerable and temporary, God’s is permanent and secure. He who created all things and lives forever (Rev 4:9-11) sits with complete confidence and power on His throne.
It is to this God that we are invited to repent and be reconciled, and then to have fellowship with (1 John 1:3). What a comfort this is in the middle of the COVID uncertainty. Let us not forget that “somebody” is still on His throne. And that He calls to us with these words, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” (Rev 3:20)
